As a spiritual seeker, yogi, artist, musician, writer, and teacher, I align myself with my growing purpose to be, learn and create. By balancing multiple simultaneous careers throughout my adult life (flight attendant, visual arts instructor, food server, piano teacher and yoga instructor), I draw inspiration from my surroundings and soak in elements from the ordinary and extraordinary. My curiosity and adventurous spirit led to a well-rounded education, graduating from PLNU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies and California Teaching Credential from SDSU. One step at a time, I overcame fears from childhood like leaving home, traveling alone, altitude sickness, hypothermia, holding lost animals, hugging trees, embracing mysterious cultures and rituals, and making new connections.
About a decade ago, after my flight attendant saga diminished, I stumbled into yoga humbly after being invited to a small outdoor class, led by a new friend who was teaching, in my beloved Balboa Park. I suddenly realized that what I thought was a form of acrobatics for flexible people, was in fact, a life-altering medium for an intense spiritual journey. I felt immense relief. I had to have more of this yoga, but more importantly, I needed to know why. I started to attend additional classes learning tidbits of concepts in each one until I committed to Yoga Teacher Training at my home studio, Yoga One San Diego. It was there that I was introduced to the history and philosophy of yoga. Following my training, I taught the weekly famed Rooftop Yoga class at the Hotel Solamar from 2016-2018, with invitation from Yoga One, and appeared several times as a guest teacher at the Yoga in the Rotunda at the Museum of Man. Certified with Yoga Alliance 200-RYT, I furthered my yoga education through training courses like Yoga Philosophy, Restorative Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, and Rainbow Kids Yoga Training.
Through some of my travels around the world (twenty-five countries), I have climbed some of the highest mountains, trekked for weeks along pilgrimage trails, practiced yoga with masters in India and Bali, taught at International Yoga Conventions, reported the Bali Spirit Festival on my blog (through a special Media Pass), and led multiple yoga and spiritual retreats in Southern California. In 2017, I embarked on a journey around the world to deepen my yoga practice and explore my spiritual relationship with food. Thinking that I might give up meat, the process deepened to letting go of much more when I found myself at a Breatharian retreat having gone five days without food or water. I never imagined this would be possible, but this incredible experience not only taught me what I’m capable of, but also opened my eyes to humanity’s potential. As a result, I have shifted my lifestyle to Vegan with daily and weekly fasting habits, bringing clarity and lightness to my being. I’m elated share this newfound art of being full with much more satisfaction than food can bring.
Musing over these topics, I discuss them through nearly one hundred blog posts on my website, Half Moon Yoga and Art. Since the year I started writing the blog, I’ve received many linked awards for being one of the top yoga blogs on the world-wide web: Ranked Blogs, YogaPractice, Do You Yoga, Yogapedia, Blog Feedspot, Ana-heart Yoga, The Stress Channel, Chosen Wellness, Smirti Yoga, Contented Feet, My Massage Chairs, Merkaela Yoga, These Wise Feet, and My Vegan Boyfriend. I’ve appeared on Fox television for my yoga and art leggings, and been featured as the yogi subject in three paintings (including one that ended up on the cover of Bogamia Magazine) by one of San Diego’s favorite artists, Sarah Stieber. I’m interviewed on websites Plant Sumo and La Dulce Studio and received a six-month sponsorship from local food company Fresh and Fit in 2016.
